NRP 52 – Childhood, Youth and Intergenerational Relationships in a changing society

The objective of the National Research Programme 52 is to generate new findings with regard to the current living conditions and needs of children and adolescents, and how these may develop in future. Intergenerational and legal aspects are of particular importance since there is a considerable lack of research in these areas in Switzerland . Furthermore, the need for action in the area of policy-making, by the federal, cantonal and municipal administrative authorities, as well as in the economic sector and non-profit making organizations, should be clarified. These findings can then form the basis from which appropriate measures can be introduced.

Human Rights of Children – IAP Research network on children's rights

Children are bearers of human rights. This statement has been acknowledged in international law in the last decennia. The IAP (Interuniversity Attraction Poles) research network seeks to investigate the role of human rights instruments for the emancipation of children. Joint research activities are centralized round the theme of "participation". This research, started in 2002, is the second phase of an interdisciplinary co-operation concerning children's rights between 3 Belgian universities. In a first phase, research was concentrated on implementation and monitoring through participation. The IAP-project is financed by the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office.
Norwegian Centre for Child Research (NOSEB)

It is NOSEB's purpose to initiate and carry out research on the life worlds of children and childhood. It aims at creating comprehensive insights in and understanding of the conditions under which children grow up and of the basic premises of childhood in modern society. The aims of the Centre are, through theoretical and empirical studies, to describe and explain both the framework for children's lives and children's own activities. As such, much of the research which is being done at NOSEB is in line with the new social studies of childhood. These studies include both structure and agency as important perspectives. It is the expectation that NOSEB's studies and research themes are contextualised socially, economically, spatially, temporarily, technologically and/or culturally, and not least in intergenerational terms. Thus, NOSEB's research focus is methodological rather than thematic.

Childwatch International is a nonprofit, nongovernmental network of institutions engaged in research for children. The Network seeks to strengthen child-centred research to contribute towards real improvement in children's well-being.
Childwatch International was founded in 1993 as a response from the research community to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child . The Convention serves as a common agenda for research aimed at improving children's living conditions, well-being and participation.
The members of Childwatch International are the Key Institutions . They are committed to child research with an interdisciplinary approach, and within the framework of international cooperation.
